About Ultimate Rivers
Ultimate Rivers is an Alaska-based enterprise, in business since 1983. We have always strived to provide the highest quality wilderness sports fishing adventures, here and abroad, at the most competitive prices. In addition to developing an outstanding Alaska program, we were among the first American tour operators to pioneer joint ventures in Russia during the late 1980s, concentrating our efforts in the Far East provinces most accessible by direct flights from Alaska.
Goo Vogt’s Siberian taimen program based out of Khabarovsk in the 1990s was very successful, garnering five IGFA World Records, including the largest fish ever taken on rod and reel. The Kamchatka program, begun in the early 1990s, featured float trips on the finest rivers in the southern and central province, along with volcano treks, visits to hot springs and trips to rural villages for cultural interaction. With our considerable involvement and passion, we have tirelessly promoted tourism and business and cultural exchanges between our two neighboring countries.
Rene Limeres, founder of Ultimate Rivers, has a lifelong passion for wild fishing that has taken him from the tiny spring creeks of Appalachia to the immense rivers of Siberia, and everything in-between. He grew up on the East Coast, USA, but has spent most of his life in Alaska. In addition to becoming an accomplished wilderness fishing guide, Rene has also worn the hats of photographer, outdoors writer, author, editor, homesteader and publisher. He lives off-grid above Denali National Park in Alaska, where he runs aurora tours in winter.
Goo Vogt is an internationally renowned whitewater rafter and guide, an IGFA World Record holder for Siberian taimen and one of the true pioneers of joint venture sports fishing programs in Russia, since the 1980’s. He has over forty years experience rafting remote wild rivers and dealing with the challenge of trip logistics in uncharted places, and is a colorful raconteur and grill master to boot. He lives with his wife and granddaughter in Anchorage, Alaska.
Galina Volgina has been conducting ecotours in Kamchatka, Russia for over thirty years through her company, The Climb, Ltd. She has partnered her formidable Russia trip outfitting talents with the Alaska-gained expertise of Ultimate Rivers to provide what are arguably the finest Kamchatka wilderness fishing experiences available. She lives with her daughter and son in Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka.
